I'm with you on this one. It raises some interesting ethical questions, that much can not be denied, and Willem Defoe's performance is quite entertaining. Its depictions of violence toe the line quite well between discomfort and absurdity, at least for me, though I suppose that would depend on how desensitized each individual viewer is to violence itself. It's worth watching, certainly, but I'm not about to go out and buy the special collector's edition.
