Ok, nobody has mentioned Hawkwind yet, another band that is not stoner rock as such, but it surely pushes its way into this thread, at least for being a favourite with many a stoner rocker. They might not always have the compact rock sound that guitars have on stoner rock records, but their mention makes sense in this thread.

Space Ritual is one of my all time favorite albums actually, though as you say, it 'aint stoner rock. Certainly an influence on them, especially Lemmy's bass lines (essentially the same he used in Motorhead just massively slower). But where stoner rock would have metal riffs, Hawkwind have moog and pedal distorted wind instruments. The weirdest thing about them is how influential they are to early
punk bands, not only the Pistols which Lydon always openly admitted, but lots of west coast U.S. bands too.
