[quote=atsonicpark]My friend let me borrow this, knowing I usually hate mainstream comedies and so on and so forth... shock of the year: I loved this fucking movie! =quote]
I saw this at the dollar theater, not expecting anything great. I just went because I'm a HUGE Arrested Development fan. Guess what? Best fucking movie of the year. At least 50 good jokes in there. I saw it again a week later and loved it even more.
You wait and wait for them to get the booze and get to the party to get laid, and the film constantly frustrates the audience's expectations. "Hurry up and get wasted," the normally-rational-minded audience begs. That's why some folks thought it was too long or a tad boring.
But that isn't what the film is about at all. It's about attempting to conform and, in failing, finding something better.
The laughs are almost non-stop, but I swear the audiences were dead silent when the two main character tell each other that they love each other. Have you ever seen two teenage boys express themselves so openly before in a film? It's such a beautiful moment.
It's NOT a teen-sex comedy. It's a revision of the genre, and a brilliant one at that. American Pie it ain't. Masterpiece it is.
