Seems like everyone wants to be with the Japanese guy with the freakishly large member because he's such an oddity. Since you're asking for speculation, that's my somewhat cynical guess. It can't be merely because he's exotic; there must be other Asian gay guys around, right?
The "boyfriends" in question are engaged in a temporary semi-truce as they compete to see who will hold the "trophy" for a time. My supposition is that all of this is on a very superficial level and a lasting relationship between any of the fellows and their locus isn't likely.
After all, like you wrote, the guy isn't particularly attractive, he isn't very wealthy, and his personality isn't all that charming.
