I don't write lyrics...because I don't write songs. So here is a poem that seems like it could be structured in that way, at least more than some of the others I have written. It is easy to imagine it having music, if that is the point of this.

Planks

The balcony was dark and still
All the posters peeling off the walls
I drew a new direction
To pass time on my own side of the room
From the corner of the stage you can see all the people out of tune

In the past I always tore up the planks
And I never put new ones down
We travel terrible miles within bounds of the night
I’m laying the planks down now


I meant for it to be about the things that happen in life that force us to change, for the better.
