I don't know, I guess you could. Personally I don't think it looks good on anyone, and if anyone does do it, it sort of requires a specific emo/scene look to go with it. So I would say don't do it, but that's just me. Try some, play around with it. See how you like it, and try not too look ridiculous. Like you said, subtly is the key.
