Alot of people take it as a sign of respect for someone to take off their sunglasses when spoken to, especially about a serious matter. It was also a way of her proving he has problems, many, but one being immaturity. He is a 5 year old - therefore he should be treated as one. She spoke to him like she/they do anyone on that shitty show, until he started acting all 'cool'.
