a) your turntable should have a nice soft slip pad on it, or you'd be scratching up the flip side of whatever you happen to be playing regardless... they're pretty cheap and should be replaced frequently. many record labels sell them with band or label logos on them, or you can just get the standard technics pads...

b) i know what you're saying about car stereos in particular where the disk just slides in... but most good stereos have a tray that pops out like a computer or a cover that opens up and lets you place the disc on the spindle. and most good car stereos have a disk changer where the trays swing out on a hinge. (if they still have a cd player at all and not XM and an mp3 player....)
