i wouldn't know about growing up online, since the internet, cell phones, compact discs and video game consoles hadn't been invented yet when i was growing up. and though they had been invented my family didn't have cable television or a microwave oven... we got our first color tv when i was in 2nd grade when we got our first videodisc player (no not laserdisc, actual vinyl platter with a movie on it...) i bought my first album on vinyl, not because it was hip and retro, but because it seemed like a better option than 8-track cassette. all through high school i typed papers on an electric typewriter.
...on the other hand used to play space invaders on my uncle's IBM5150
and i learned basic on an apple IIe in elementary school
in high school i used to get on telnet and bbs's on my friend's mac classic
in college i had a 14.4k modem before the World Wide Web was invented... what did i use a modem for before the www, you ask? wasting time just like now, only without pictures:
you could also download pictures from usenet newsgroups like alt.sex.pictures you just couldn't view them in a "web browser" beforehand.
