I also have a vastly receding hairline. Recently, however, I've let my hair grow out from a buzz cut to a combable length, and I have to say, it doesn't look all that bad. The trick though is to keep it trimmed enough so that it doesn't look like a comb over.

When I met my wife, my hair was thick and long. People used to kid me that I looked like Jim Morrison.

These days I'm more on the order of Charlie Watts (present day).
