i would say if you want to use it live go mac (but not a macbook unless it is macbook pro), but if it is just a project studio for your bedroom go windows and build your own box it is much cheaper. buy parts that are iso certified though as all the software manufaturers test there stuff on iso certified hardware. audio is works with very large amounts of data so a bit of advice is to run two hard drives with a minimum 7200rpm. one for the software to run and one for the audio files to record to and nothing else audio files only. audio data also fragments the drives quite quickly so defrag them regularly. depending on what software you would like to use will depend on which type of box you go for aswell. then you have sound card, ram etc.....
