I've only been to Florence but I can give you some tips.
1. Go see the David! (I cannot stress this enough.) You can find him the Academy. The statue in the Plaza in not, I repeat, not the original. It's just a copy. Also, while you're in the plaza, see the Perseus and Medusa bronze
2. Eat the gelato. Best in the world.
3. See Dante's house and all things Dante
4. If you're wanting a nice leather jacket, buy it there. Or any other leather goods
5. Go walking in a small group around the city, see the Duomo.
6. Buy cheap street vendor art
