hell no. i spent 6 months in an israeli kibbutz where the bulk of volunteer workers was from england.

we often held dialogues such as this:

"why can't you do that"

"that's just not done"

"yes, but why? what's the reason?"

"cos it's not done"

"yes, but-- why do you think that is?"

"because it's not done"
