Double bass drum rolls and all, I've never been too excited by Peart or Rush. Neil writes some horrible new age drivel for lyrics usually too. Technically, Peart is very good, but he's overrated ultimately to make it on my particular list, because for me, artistic creativity and purity of process counts almost as much.
Some of the music of Rush is good though. And, of course, some of their outings (
Permanent Waves,
Moving Pictures,
Caress of Steel) are regarded as classic rock albums, but my favorite is probably the live
Exit...Stage Left and the earlier double live
2112. I haven't listened to them in forever though.
