I was guilty of not seeing and suppoorting my local music scene for a while. Granted there are basically two scenes: your local shuffle of rock/pop/hip-hop bands and then your experimental/noise/improv/jazz scene. The latter of which I tend to subscribe to. Having a baby and all it was difficult to go out and see all the shows I wanted or want to. For instance within the last two months these bands have been here: Times New Viking,Psychedelic Horsheshit,Sunburned Hand, Warmer Milks, Tight Leather, Hair Police. I wanted to see all of these shows, but alas I do have greater responsibilities. But with all of that been said, the baby is growing into a little boy, soon He'll be two and so on. Last week my local college radio station had their 20th anniversary and to celebrate they hosted a free festival. The roster was: Mahjonng, Hair Police, Jolie Holland, Apples In Stereo, and The Coup. I went out and supported this function, had a great time, the kid had a great time, the wife met us after work and had a great time, and I managed to get good footage of Hair Police and The Coup. Perhaps the summer will bring more shows that the little onecan come to, like I said, I don't really go to the local music hall because they rarely have a band I wanna see (last one was Six Organs in Feb.), I go to the all ages underground spots that host the like of noise/improv/jazz/funcore.
