OK, I know you said you aren't after a dist or OD pedal, but D.A.M are currently producing some outrageously good pedals that are getting seriously amazing reviews. The company is a boutique effort, run by a guy and his girlfriend in England. They don't have US distribution but most people just get them direct from their home in Yorkshire. Being a 'boutique' outfit their stuff isn't cheap (around $200-250 a pop given the current exchange rate). However, their pedals ARE all 100% handmade and even the instructions are hand written! Their site has tonnes of great sound clips and graphics to give you an idea:
Be warned though, the Meathead clip may well have you succumbing to your inner Iommi before you know it. The guy that makes them even
looks like he should be a member of Eyehategod!
