Anybody remember the Dana Carvey Show? Every week it had a different "sponsor", like one week was the Taco Bell Dana Carvey Show and then it was Mug Root Beer, then Mountain Dew, etc. The show only ran for about 7 episodes in the spring of 1996. It was way better than anything in the past ten years of SNL. It featured sketches with Steve Carell and Stephen Colbert, who would later be on The Daily Show with Craig Kilborn/Jon Stewart. But apparently the newly Disney-owned ABC found it too edgy for prime time TV.
