It probably has something to do with past experiences, at least on my part.
I've had quite a number of blood tests, and the nurses can never get my veins to stay still so they always dig around in my arm and leave huge bruises and it hurts like hell.
As for IV needles... I've woken up after being drugged for a few hours with blood all over my arm from an IV.
I guess mine isn't so irrational anymore.
