All their studio albums except Funhouse (IMO their best album) were produced by big names: John Cale; David Bowie; and Steve Albini, and all three of them completely fucked up. Ex-Kingsmen Don Gallucci seems to have done the best job on Funhouse, but even he seems a bit scared of guitars at times. Which sort of makes sense - considering he's a keyboardist by trade.
OK, I'm being a little harsh on Gallucci, but I dunno, I'm seriously beginning to believe that no one aside from me (and I can't even play the guitar) should've ever been allowed to produce The Stooges.
Actually, when I think about it, I probably should've produced most albums. I promise you they'd be at least ten percent better than they are.

Well Raw Power is NOT David's fault. Iggy kept telling him to turn up the treble and distortion, which was thinning the fuck out of it. Bowie would never have created that. That being said,the good numbers on there can't be stopped. My band does great versions of Search and Destroy as well as Gimme Danger. Some people don't know them and think they're ours..haha. oh well..
