I'm totally conflicted on this. Regarding Motley Crue, absolutely. A dreadful band of absolutely no interest or merit whatsoever. I do however have a real love for GnR's Appetite album which I just think of as a stunning collection of songs. But no, I can't really defend GnR as a whole either. I especially think it's funny how they perceive of themselves as having put the boot in on all those hair metal bands, when in fact they were merely the most popular example of the genre.

I was discusing this with Rob Instigator in another thread. I really think it's different in the UK, insofar as however big GnR were here, they were never quite as massive a force in Britain as they were in the US. We can therefore enjoy them without having to deal with the crappy cult that seemingly followed them in the their home country. I'm certainly sure that had I been living in America in the 80s, I'd hate them as much as anyone else.
