I think Rob handled the physiology aspect well, but this is something you really don't want to mess with. I don't think I could resist it. Burroughs wrote that doing a shot of heroin for the first time was like having an orgasm through your whole body. As wonderful as that is, he also relates you then spend the rest of your life trying fruitlessly to hit that spasm again. He also relates people who were addicts for years and maintained fine until the supply would run out - or the pigs would bust them - then their whole lives collapsed.
I think the worst aspect of the drug these days are the fucking low life dirtbag scummers you have to deal with to get the drug. The purity is real good.
I'm predicting a massive wave of heroin to hit the US if Obama gets elected. The Bushies have been hording tons of dope in Afghanistan since the occupation began and I predict they'll flood the inner cities with it, like they did in the 60's. You talk to people from the time and they'll tell you how the dealers used to give it away free to get people hooked. No one in their right mind wants to be a dopefiend. I had a friend in college who got raped by his dealers when he owed them money. Ugliness.
