the main draw of heroin, for most of it's users, is not any euphoria you get, but that it numbs you, takes away the pain, whether emotional/physical/psychological. Kurt Cobain allegedly started doing heroin to kill the pain he had from his gastric ulcers which were eating up his stomach and intestines.
when life is all pain and hurt, something like heroin can be very very attractive.
