The Unforgettable Fire (especially), The Joshua Tree, parts of Rattle & Hum & Achtung Baby are all some very good rock n' roll. It's not like I even listen to any of them that much anymore, but still those albums stand the test of time pretty damn well. Until one of you puts out a record as good as one of these you just sort of seem to be spewing sour grapes & jealous hate & only serving to make yourselves look foolish & jumping on some sort of trendy let's bash U2 bandwagon because they are your daddy's alternative music. Guess you else is yr pop's alternative music? Fucking Sonic Youth, that's who. People criticize SY for a lot (READ: not all) of the same reasons.

The Mephisto persona was pretty cool. Kinda like Bono-as-Morrison. A real low point recently was the horrendous iPod commercial that used their music. (Oh & the Dirty Boots riff rip)
The absolute low point for U2 was on the Pop Mart tour where Bono, looking rather foolish himself, wore this:

the worst is when he pulls a girl from the public,,,,sing looking in her eyes, and she cries, and she makes caressess(?) (the thing you do in a cat's fur) in his sweated and unshaved face,,,,,and he kisses her in the end........sick

Those are theatrics he borrowed from one of his idols, Bruce Springsteen.
