smox, why dont you just record audio in your camera, then capture only the audio in your computer, then export to cassete (or whatever) via line out?

headphone is an amplified signal & it will be hard to get a good recording from it without distortion.

sounds like a weird scheme. anyway, you seem intent on doing that for whatever reason, so best wishes.
