It wasn't as though this prank was any cruder than what they usually do on their TV/radio shows. It's just that The Mail didn't have anything to support their usual 'country is going to the dogs' Sunday story, stumbled upon it and decided to make it their headline (even though it was ten days after it was broadcast). It wasn't motivated by genuine outrage.

Indeed the public reaction isn't motivated by genuine outrage - it's more become a lightning rod for other issues such as anger over Ross' pay deal, Brand being on TV all of the time (he's overexposed; I'd like to see him return to stand-up).

It's all rather inconsistent. Why is The Mail rushing to defend Georgina Baillie? She is part of a goth/vampire/Burlesque stripper-group that The Mail would usually condemn. The moral compass is being shifted out of convenience.

I'm glad this has happened (I dislike Ross' humour, his fawning over celebrities, his nob jokes, his interest in Japanese toys - and Brand will survive anyway); it's the right thing for the wrong reasons.

I saw Kelvin Mackenzie give his view on the news this morning, decrying the sheer baseness of their actions. This is the guy behind the 'Gotcha!' headline at the sinking of the Belgrano during the Falklands Conflict: now that example of schadenfreude removes his right to take the sanctimonious highground on any matter, the cunt. Sums it up, that.
