A .22 killed Robert Kennedy, to name one off the top of my head.
A .22 is actually a really nasty bullet despite its low power, since it isn't jacketed, if it hits something like, say, your ribcage, it can split, ricocheting everywhere inside you.

Unless you're mentally unstable, or just plain dumb, there are way more effective ways of killing yourself than a .22lr.... I seem to remember a guy, possibly in Argentina who shot himself 7 times in the head and didn't die. Now *that* is nasty.
