As far as the vanity issue is concerned, I would say that anyone who thinks he or she is equipped to make decisions for millions and is willing to go on massive tours of the country in order to toot his or her qualifications and expertise to the masses has a certain level of vanity, and that level would be pretty high. Non-issue.
