The trouble with having your car stolen is that, even if it is covered by insurance, it's still mega-inconvenient. All of a sudden you've lost your independence, plus there's a wait of a couple of months until the insurance pays out. You have to decide whether to get a loan to get a new car before that happens, or live with the inconvenience until the policy pays out.

When it happened to me, I borrowed money to get a new car, and then the old one was found by the police three days before the policy would have paid out.
