Fashion victims are not the same as someone who is comfortable with fashion, looks after their appearance, and happens to have decent, stimulating taste in 'stuff', be they records, music, books, movies etc.

'Hipster' has taken on a whole new meaning since the 60's, when you were considered hip if you were into wacky jazz, opera, as well as avantgarde music, and you generally had a habit of always being on the lookout for interesting things, all while dressing in rebellious-looking clothes.

Since EVERYONE with vaguely decent taste in music who also happens to dress in a faux-dishevelled, geometric, quirky way is labelled a hipster these days, all those with a lack of self-confidence into the same sort of music feel automatically cut-out and take the higher moral ground, often venting their supposed superiority at any given opportunity, which makes them feel better about themselves when 'THE HIPSTER' is dragged down to their own level.
