edit. "my girlfriend" isnt bother me. i guess its the ownership ^2, in the case of my wife, since wife alone indicates "ownership".

Saying my wife is less objectifying than the wife if you ask me. You don't say the sister, the mom, the dad. You use "my" but it doesn't imply that you own them, it simply shows that he/she is a relation to you. Just like "my day was good" doesn't mean you own the day but that it is a good day in relation to you.
