Ah, downtown New York City circa 1980...the vacant tenement deathtraps, the hepatitis-ridden junkies, the scummy drug dealers...the sights and smells of the No Wave era underground. You'll get all this and more from Llik Your Idols, Angelique Bosio's documentary about the scene, set for DVD release on MVD Visual on May 19.
The film, whose title is obviously a play on Kill Your Idols, the 2004 film exploring the connection between the No Wave scene and the 21st century NYC post-punk revival, focuses on the intersection between the musicians and filmmakers who were intermingling both personally and artistically on the late-'70s/early-'80s New York underground, and includes interviews with Thurston Moore, Lydia Lunch, Richard Hell, and
Jarboe of
Swans fame, in addition to the likes of Nick Zedd, Joe Coleman, and Richard Kern
