Psycho struck people in its time for a weird thing he did : killing the movie star early on (and no flash backs).
It did not strike me when I saw it, but I had that kind of reaction Hitchcock wanted his audience to have, when William Petersen is shot in To Live and Die in LA, leaving the task of bringing an end to the movie to the supporting actor.

The lead male actor almost ruins the picture though.
Not as bad as Frederick Stafford in Topaz, but still hard to bear.
