I think there is an age that men get to where t-shirts don't look good at all (along with most types of jeans, trainers, etc). For casual wear, polo shirts seem much better to me.

Note: I work in a place full of students, who all dress at Top Shop, and middle-aged people, who feel insecure and copy them by buying everything from Top Shop too, and they all look like idiots, so maybe I've over-reacted a bit on the conservative side.
