I didn't find it boring, just laughable. The acting was so revolting, the story was a joke, I always love how people tell me it's a deep movie.. it's mainly loved by people who want to see something "surreal" but who don't want to bother with a truely surreal film. It's a very simple, boneheaded movie. I knew a dude who told me he read all these time traveling books and shit and it helped him "get" the movie better. There's nothing to get, though! It's just a simple drama with some wanna-be-surreal bullshit thrown in. Also, Donnie himself is an AWFUL character, completely unlikeable in every way a character can be unlikeable, and the whole thing is a chore to sit through.
That scene at the end, with Mad World playing (er.. it still is Mad World, right? I know they had to change some of the music from the original version, for some reason) with all the characters crying is AWFUL. One of the worst scenes ever filmed, with The Devil's Rejects ending with "Freebird" being another one that sticks out in my mind as laughably bad.
Anyway, what I saw of S. Darko was your typical cheapo cash-in. Overly complicated and silly with worse acting, somehow. Also, no James Duvall as Frank? Fuck that. But yeah, really, the film actually stylistically is pretty consistent with the Donnie Darko tone... the music, the effects, the look of the film. It just.. you know.. is terrible.
