Well it could be nostalgia talking- I used to visit Vancouver all the time as a kid. Chinatown had cool stuff, Stanley Park had the zoo, and we just generally had a good time. I lived in suburban Vancouver briefly as an adult, and still enjoyed visiting Stanley Park, but Chinatown has gone downhill, as has East Vancouver (friend of a friend got mugged there- guy had a GUN).
But yes Vancouver is beautiful, and there are museums and stuff. One thing I like about Victoria (which isn't a lot, it's kind of a snotty place) is the Royal British Columbia museum which is just amazing (again, the kid in me talking?).
I am from BC originally and I miss it to this day. It's the kind of place that gets in your soul.
