yes this is true, but it is also a recent phenomenon. ALL coffee from the Yirgacheffe region is from Sidamo, because it is a county in the province of Sidamo. However, even traditionally there has been superior coffee grown out of yirgacheffe, but it is not called such by Ethiopians. As a brand name, Yirgacheffe as the more luxurious brew is recent, as are many of the co-ops. So essentially, it just depends on how you get yr ethiopian coffee and what Coffee Trade Union (the central distributer under govt license for each region co-ops) exports it. For example, Starbucks Sidamo is a blend of co-op commonly branded as Yirgacheffe. But as I said, that is brand to brand..
But it is true that yirgacheffe produces the world's best coffee. my parish priest and father-confessor was born in yirgacheffe, it is also one of the world's most beautiful places..
