i once did have a tramp hop towards me in taunton though - its was the most terrifying begging ive ever witnessed because i wasnt expecting it, he was just this really tall weirdly dressed scruffy guy walking in front of us then he stopped, turned round and started hopping towards us holding out his top hat. i hope he changed his methods or surely he would starve.

I can't decide whether Glice was being serious or not, but I most certainly wasn't dreaming.

Admittedly, maybe limping is too strong wording. Let's just say half of them were proper cripples and after a while it grabbed all my attention and I started seeing cripples crawling out from everywhere, when in fact these people just had, uhm, minor walking problems. I definitely did see a high number of people who walked "funny" though, not like normal healthy people do.

I could probably blame the frequent begging on me looking like a dumb foreigner with a backpack. They knew it.

But Taunton did really feel to me like a depressing town to live in. Next time I pass through it on the way to ATP I won't be walking further than the 50 meters from the train station to the bus stop.

The Somerset landscape is beautiful though, I agree with whoever it was that mentioned something along those lines earlier in this thread.
