one of my favorite road trip memory is driving back to Flagstaff AZ from a full day spent at the Grand Canyon with my then wife, and the sun had set and we drove for almost an hour through a dense forest of black bark pine trees with every tenth tree being a white birch. thoe ghostly white birch interspersed among all that murky blackness was something I will never forget.
Later, when I watched Princess Mononoke for the first time, I felt the exact same sense of awe and slight fear watching the scenes in the Old Forest wityh the horned god.
trees rule all.

Jesus fuck, thats awesome. I can imagine.
The last week has been fucking full of stunning sunsets. I take a half hour train out of town right at sunset, so I get the whole spectrum of all reaches, the black velvet of the sky being melted on in layers by the radioactive bright lavas at the skyline like the other night, or the milder but just as awesome hazy cobalt blue blending with fleshy pinks and yellows. The thing I guess that helps, is that murky blackness of the earth/buildings. Its just...ITS BLACK. You see lights, patterns. But quite the contrast.
I love it, and feel blessed by life to see that lately.
