...for some reason, no re-release Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb just yet.

For some reason they included the widescreen versions of The Shining and Full Metal Jacket which were originally filmed in 4:3 and then chopped for the theaters. It'd be nice if a set was put together by a film historian instead of a marketing guy. At least we'll get nice new releases of Clockwork and 2001. I'm still buying it tonight.

I've seen the A Life In Pictures documentary that's included on cable; it's a really good one.

There's already a two-disc special edition of Dr. Strangelove out on DVD, the only Kubrick to get a 2-Disc edition so far, this is one of the reasons why I don't own any Kubrick movies, many of them, even "Clockwork Orange" have that "matted" widescreen thing, I have a widescreen tv so they should just release a version that is enlarged for 16:9 screen sizes. |

Worth it for the extras, but don't know if I can ever imagine having the patience to sit through FMJ or EWS again.

I'm not a fan of "Eyes Wide Shut" either (I guess it doesn't help that I think Tom Cruise to be a fist magnet extraordinaire), but it's nice for this boxset to be put together, anyways.

No Lolita, Dr. Stangelove, or Paths of Glory in the set.
