The proper LP's only. No room for compilations here.

The Sisters of Mercy are occaisionally mentioned on this forum. The three proper LP's are all fine bodies of work, each adding to the Sisters' reputation whilst each having their own distinctive atmosphere.

Personally I like 'Floodland' most of all; every track does something special.

First and Last and Always for me. That is the "real" Sisters lineup in my mind. Plus I think every song is great on that LP.
I like some of the early EPs a lot too, but they are even more dated sounding now. It kind of took them a long time to release a full length.

..and the current LP is taking even longer!

Does anyone have the bootleg of the SSV recording? I'd love to hear it.

SSV is the shortened name of the band SSV-NSMABAAOTWMODAACOTIATW, formed by Sisters of Mercy singer Andrew Eldritch in 1997, as a way to get out of the Sisters' contract with WEA. Eldritch provided a duo of relatively obscure techno music producers some spoken vocals, and they quickly put together a couple of techno tunes employing the Eldritch samples. Then the percussion sections were removed entirely, and presented to the record company, who grudgingly accepted the product, dissolving the contract.

It is "hinted" that the band's name stands for "Screw Shareholder Value - Not So Much A Band As Another Opportunity To Waste Money On Drugs And Ammunition courtesy Of The Idiots At Time Warner".

One of those bands on the "I need to check them out" list. Someday.

First and Last and Always, without a doubt, because it includes Some Kind Of Stranger.

Some Kind of Stranger is a standout track, but Floodland has Flood, Flood II and Neverland (a Fragment). And the reissue has the seni-mythical 12-minute full version of Neverland! Fantastic.

All of the recent reissues come with fine bonus material and sleevenotes. Worth buying.

This thread has just reminded me; I wonder where Candymoan is? He hasn't been around in a while.

I want to buy the reissues, but the fact that I already own all three albums keeps on stopping me.

I would advise it. The extra tracks and sleevenotes are very good, and they're really quite inexpensive: £9 in HMV, £8 in Music Zone. Cheaper online, I believe.

The 12-minute Neverland and the 9-minute Doctor Jeep are superb.
