NYC Ghosts & Flowers = Side A
("Lightning") SYR5 = Side B it was released like this, and I bought them both when they were released but didn't make sense to me for like 9 years.

my favorite is six, Five is something to appreciate. The SYR series are music for specific situations and sonic experiences for certain occasions.. the same thing with something like Thurston's playing with White Out or Lee gigs like the Four Guitars album.

..........although a part of me feels very strongly that SYR8 is slowly creeping it's way towards the top of the list.

I had a similar experience. When I first listened to it so many years ago it was so grating. It was really really hard to listen to, it was the only SY recording that actually gave me a headache.
Listened to it again a couple of months ago and it sounded pretty cool and normal. I always liked Olive's Horn though. I love the ending of that one. |

I listened to it twice... it was a struggle both times.

nowadays I think SYR5 is actually pretty great. But like I said earlier, it makes a lot more sense as a continuation of NYCG&F in my head.
HOnestly the only SYR I have trouble really enjoying to this day is 4. I wish I liked it more, but I just find a lot of it unlistenable. There's parts I like. And I love the concept. But as music, I don't enjoy it all that much.

I think SYR5 is like all the other solo works I´ve heard from SY, great, but not as great as the SY albums. There are very great moments (for example Yuka Honda´s wild drums in Take Me back and that melodic line somewhere in the middle of Fried Mushrooms) but the entity is maybe a little hard to listen. But it is quite enjoyable to listen sometimes.
Somebodies said something about SYR3, I think it is as great as SYR1,2 and 7. |

It is defenitly a hard album to enjoy unless you're in a avant-garde mood, I love it but I am rarely in the mood for it.

I fucking love this album.
Some of Kim's most classic work. "International Spy" is probably my favorite track. God I wish I still had my hard copy of this. |

"Paperbag / Orange Laptop" too.
How is this one harder to digest than 3? |
