Too bad, this ad was funny. Not a reason to fire the guy.

Hahaha this made me laugh.

I cooperate with the Saatchis on a daily basis, we do many campaigns together, and I can say, I don't like this agency AT ALL. A bunch of ignorant pricks they are.

Saatchi & Saatchi.... aren't those the same guys that came up with that honeywhatever fake band that got airplay or some shit?

either way I could careless about the ads/people getting offended/somedude getting fired. Maybe Joe Strummer was too far or was it all about Kurt again.

I guess that "lake of fire" cover is a little bit too ironic for comfort, then.

See, I've been saying that forever! They could make one badass Nirvana greatest hits album with things like: "Been a son" (because, yeah, he USED to be a son) followed by "son of a gun" followed by "blew" followed by "Lake of Fire". It'd actually really tell a story. Oh well.

Oh so funny the thread. I think people who get offended in ads are moronic, just as those stupid ads are.

I wasn't offended. I just think the ads were incredibly cheap. I mean if you take into account the way the target market for the shoes feel about those people it was never going to go down well. It certainly wouldn't have sold more shoes. So I don't blame them for firing people who clearly have no idea.

I love the fine Dr. Martens products. I love their boots. I love their shoes. And I can say I am indifferent towards the ads. Are they offensive? Yeah, I can see how they might be to some people, but for fuck's sake, how is this important shit? Humans certainly enjoy vainglorious pursuits. The people that did the ads are idiot drones; the media reporting on the "controversial" ads are idiot drones as well. At any rate, a man named Bill Hicks had a stong opinion on this subject.

By the way, if anyone here is in advertising or marketing, kill yourself. Thank you, thank you. Just a little thought. I'm just trying to plant seeds. Maybe one day they'll take root, I don't know. You try. You do what you can. Kill yourselves. Seriously though, if you are, do. No really, there's no rationalisation for what you do, and you are Satan's little helpers, OK? Kill yourselves, seriously. You're the ruiner of all things good. Seriously, no, this is not a joke. "There's gonna be a joke coming..." There's no fucking joke coming - you are Satan's spawn, filling the world with bile and garbage, you are fucked and you are fucking us, kill yourselves, it's the only way to save your fucking soul. Kill yourself.

I know what all the marketing people are thinking right now too. "Oh, you know what Bill's doing? He's going for that anti-marketing dollar. That's a good market. He's very smart." Oh man, I am not doing that, you fucking evil scumbags.
