I was just listening to the new Decemberists album(to be released in Oct) "The Cranes Wife" this morning on the way to work and was really impressed. I'm sure a lot of you may not like them or listen to them, but for those that do, the album is a lot different than previous releases. It has a very rock and roll even classic rock feel. Its very polished and all the querky 1st person character's tales from 16th British ship yards seemed to have diminished to some degree. In other words, it sounds like a band who has recently been signed to a major label. So at first I was a little dissapointed, but after I realized after I had turned up the volume 3 times, that for a first listen, its a damn good album. Very diverse songs, some being longer and more progressive like the last ep "Taint". One song was so good it reminded me of Fleetwood Mac and would give almost any of their songs a run for their money. Anyway, I still have the other half to listen to, but I thought I would give a review. I got it off torrentspy

The Tain was wonderful, but Picaresque kinda bored me a bit. don't get me wrong, there is many good songs on P... just not enough to keep me hangin' on. my favourite Decembersits song has gotta be Everything I Try To Do, Nothing Seems To Turn Out Right.
