from her press release...
HOMELAND will be somewhere between epic poem, play and multi media concert. It will look at American obsessions with security, distance, information, the relationship of fear and freedom, the increasing acceptance of violence and the persistent new language of war. HOMELAND will trace the culture of hummers, bloggers, loneliness and telesurveillance. It will use the synthetic language of technology and the sensuous language of song writing and poetry to look at reality shows, American style totalitarianism, and sentimentality. Twenty-first century America has changed quickly in the last few years becoming a radically different place. In post-Andy Warhol-America we can see his themes of sex, fame violence and death set into motion and taking on new shapes in contemporary politics, entertainment and technology. One of the premier performance artists in America, Laurie Anderson has consistently intrigued, entertained and challenged audiences with her multimedia presentations. Anderson's artistic career has cast her in roles as various as visual artist, composer, poet, photographer, filmmaker, ventriloquist, electronics whiz, vocalist and instrumentalist. Laurie Anderson's "O Superman" launched her recording career, rising to number two on the British pop charts and subsequently appearing on Big Science, the first of seven albums for Warner Bros., including "Mister Heartbreak," "United States Live," "Strange Angels" and the soundtrack to the feature film "Home of the Brave." Ms. Anderson has toured the US and the world numerous times with shows ranging from simple spoken word to elaborate multimedia events. Ms. Anderson has created numerous videos and films, and has contributed music to films by Wim Wenders and Jonathan Demme and dances pieces by Bill T. Jones, Trisha Brown, Molissa Fenley and others. She has created pieces for National Public Radio, The BBC and Expo '92 in Seville as well as composed several pieces for orchestra. Ms. Anderson continues to work on the internet, contributing to her web site, and working on numerous live theatrical and cyber events. http://www.pomegranatearts.com/proje...rson/tour.html 2007 SPRING TOUR JANUARY 15, MONDAY 2007 8:00pm A 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Beats Presented by: 92nd Street Y Unterberg Poetry Center Venue: Kaufmann Concert Hall NEW YORK, NY http://www.92y.org/shop/event_detail.asp?productid=T%2DTP5MS17 FEBRUARY 1, THURSDAY 2007 8:00pm Presented by: Brooklyn Philharmonic Orchestra Venue: Brooklyn Academy of Music Opera House BROOKLYN, NY MARCH 16, FRIDAY 2007 7:00pm Presented by: The Public Theater Venue: Joe's Pub NEW YORK, NY http://www.joespub.com/caltool/index.cfm?fuseaction=detail&performanceID=2693 MARCH 18, SUNDAY 2007 7:00pm Presented by: The Public Theater Venue: Joe's Pub NEW YORK, NY http://www.joespub.com/caltool/index.cfm?fuseaction=detail&performanceID=2694 MARCH 28, WEDNESDAY 2007 7:00pm Lecture as part of Astrobiology and the Sacred Presented by: University of Arizona, Department of Astronomy Venue: University of AZ, Center for Creative Photography TUCSON, AZ http://scienceandreligion.arizona.edu/anderson.html APRIL 4, WEDNESDAY 2007 8:00pm Lecture Presented by: Student Union Art Gallery of U MASS Amherst Venue: to be determined AMHERST, MA APRIL 5, THURSDAY 2007 6:00pm Hidden Inside Mountains screening & Presentation Presented by: University of Maryland-College Park Venue: Tawes Theatre COLLEGE PARK, MD http://www.air.umd.edu/laurie_anderson.html APRIL 30, MONDAY 2007 Presented by: Lincoln Center Venue: Alice Tully Hall NEW YORK, NY ----------------------------------------- JUNE 8, FRIDAY 2007 8:45pm HOMELAND Presented by: International Music SRL Venue: Teatro Nuovo Giovanni da Udine UDINE, ITALY JUNE 11-12, MONDAY-TUESDAY 2007 7:30pm HOMELAND Presented by: M_Veszetek Palotaja KFT Venue: the Bela Bartok Concert Hall BUDAPEST, HUNGARY JUNE 14, THURSDAY 2007 9:00pm HOMELAND Presented by: 10:15 Management Venue: Congress Centre PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC JUNE 19, TUESDAY 2007 9:00pm HOMELAND Presented by: Hellenic Festival Venue: Odeon of Herodes Atticus ATHENS, GREECE JUNE 26, TUESDAY 2007 HOMELAND Presented by: Stage Planet SL Venue: Kursaal Auditorium SAN SEBASTIAN, SPAIN JUNE 28, THURSDAY 2007 HOMELAND Presented by: Stage Planet SL Venue: Teatro Principal de Zaragoza ZARAGOZA, SPAIN JUNE 30, SATURDAY 2007 HOMELAND Presented by: Stage Planet SL Venue: Festival Grec 2007- Teatre Grec BARCELONA, SPAIN JULY 2, TUESDAY 2007 9:00pm HOMELAND Presented by: Les Nuits de Fourviere Venue: Grand Theatre Romain de Lyon Fouviere LYON, FRANCE JULY 4, WEDNESDAY 2007 9:00pm HOMELAND Presented by: Stimmen Festival Venue: Burghof Loerrach LORRACH, GERMANY JULY 5, THURSDAY 2007 9:00PM HOMELAND Presented by: International Music SRL Venue: Teatro Dal Verme MILAN, ITALY --- I'll post the transcript when it surfaces. |
