What do you think is more interesting to read when it comes to discovering new music? I virtually don't buy music magazines anymore 'cause I tend to find better writers either online or on fanzines (which I count as a different medium from magazines).

I read mostly blogs and boards now, but strangely enough, a lot of the blogs I read are written by people I first discovered in print mags.

depends on the bloggers, sometimes they're just so caught up with buzzbands pitchfork will start covering after them that what they cover is pure garbage.
others are too much fan boys and into their own nerdiness to really give you a honest opinion or an interesting read even (see pretty much any blog about sufjan stevens). but purely stadistically, i'd say blogs. |

I usually like blogs more because each writer injects their own kind of personal flavor and isn't castrated by some asshole editor.

Yeah, the only blog I ever read is mutant sounds, and it doesn't really review things. I do like Mark Prindle's reviews, though I only agree with him half the time. They're just hilarious.
I find new music by downloading random bands off of people who download off of me on soulseek, though I have found a handful of good bands from last.fm. Also.."I must create a new regime / Or live by another man’s / Before the moon falls". |

I get the Wire. My general thinking (right or wrong) is that if the editor of the Wire think it's good enough writing, it gets in. Blogs I rarely peruse. But I'm listening to more classical music these days, so it's actually largely Radio 3 that informs my tastes.

I don't really trust any reviewer's opinion anymore. Too many people who listen to something once while playing video games or driving and then act as if they have a deep analysis. It doesn't take any talent, just money. Nothing has changed.

Depends what you're after (obviously enough). Late Junction is pretty indispensible (Tues, Weds, Thurs 2315). I adore the Early Music show (Saturday 1300, repeated Sunday). World Routes on Saturdays at 1500 is pretty good, although it can be patchy. They had a glorious series on Azerbaijan recently, and their 'on-site' things tend to dig a bit deeper than just 'here's something that sounds generically Belgian'. I dip into the Hear and Now programme from time-to-time, and while I think Sarah Mohr-Pietsch (pronounced 'more peach') has the sexiest voice in radio, it does tend to be guff. But I have radio 3 on pretty much constantly. That would require a fairly high tolerance for baroque music. I almost enjoyed some Scarlatti the other day. Getting old, innit?

No worries. I've was meant to upload some classical stuff for you at some point as well, wasn't I? I'll try and remember to do that this weekend.
