Short videoclip from the same performance at The Wire site.
Propably already posted at some point, nice reminder nonetheless I guess.

Got the Mirror/Dash CD today. Listened to it twice already which is unusual for me. I said at Le Weekend, I think I sort of preferred Mirror Dash to Dream Aktion Unit and hearing this CD has confirmed that notion. Love Kim's universe crushing electric guitar skronk and Thurston's acoustic playing is interesting as well. The reverb drenched vocals don't go amiss either.

Dream Aktion Unit were sort of better but, in a way, Mirror/Dash were sort of better as well

im kind of on the fence about wether or not i should buy this, i was a little underwhelmed w/ the lathe but universe crushing electric guitar skronk... sounds fun.

It was only really universe crushing if you were actually there where it seemed forcefully loud. The recording just doesn't give you the physical presence of the sound but it's quite 'nice'. I haven't listened to it that much...might give it a spin now actually. Get the Dream Aktion Unit one first, that's pretty fierce and spooked in equal measures.

I just listened to it and it's 'ok'. I'm not that into it in a major way. The Dream Aktion Unit one is essential though and the artwork is ace.

After repeated listens to both, my opinion is the exact opposite of Iain's. Also, not a huge fan of the DAU artwork. I like the picture on the actual disc of the nun with bird shredded eyes. That should've been the cover. Not digging the gothic video nasty typeface either. Prefer Kim's stark minimalism.

I'm totally on board with the imaginary-video-nasty-meets-hammer-horror artwork. I really, really like pretty much all of Karen Constance's artwork that I've seen so far. I'd kill for an actual painting of hers on my wall and I'm no art collector or anything.

i find most "noise" recordings to be very underwhelming, i think the actual performance of noise music is much more interesting and has an amazing energy about it (when done properly? [is there a proper way?]). Have you ever seen AIDS Wolf live? i think they were recently just touring in yr area, they are amazing live, but i was a bit disapointed w/ the lovvers, its decent but lacks that "energy".

I'll give the Dream Aktion Unit a listen. thanks

I missed AIDS Wolf when they rolled through town last time. Bummer. I think I didn't go because I was a bit underwhelmed with the recorded stuff I'd heard. I think they may have been supporting Whitehouse as well and wasn't really up for that.

Mirror/Dash, "I Can't Be Bought"

Written by Scott Mckeating Sunday, 24 February 2008

This is the sound of Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore getting it on under their Mirror/Dash duo. Recorded in May of 2005 at the Le Weekend festival this improv set couldn't be mistaken for the work of anyone else. There is no mistaking the signature sounds of these players, Gordon's vocal remaining the ultimate love-it-or-hate-it sound in alternative circles.

Three Lobed
Her unmistakable vocal coos whispers and wanders across I Can’t Be Bought, sieving its way through feedback and shortwave transmissions. Even though it is clear who is performing here, there is still tension and restlessness in this performance. They may have the same tools as one of their quartet shows, but this is no mere Sonic Youth tea-break jam. Most importantly for a set of improvisational guitar music though is the fact that they never relax into plain old noise or get pluckily cerebral.
The shaky tension they create is held tight till the very end of the show, Gordon's coda threat of "Shake!" holding a ragged blade to the feedback's throat. Product of a backstage domestic or just broad open minds, the duo drag a little bit of harrowed muscle onto the stage. Slow slinking notes wind around Gordon's moans and disjointed singing, the guitar skirting the edges of possible rock riff avenues. There's a recurring downwards strum that ties the piece into reality, there's no chance that players this experienced could produce a comeless masturbatory fool around. Passages of chime play out back and forth before the duo pool their resources into great floating masses of sugared quake. Angular shrieks split single notes into a palette of hawked up sounds, that delicately bent crystal glean that they do so well; no one makes the sound of wrestling metal like Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon.
