updated right now the news section. I'll update the record section very soon with the two new releases one of them recordered at Rotterdam by Mr Van Rappard and the other one comes from the show in Italy last May 26 2005 at Auditorio Concordia. I went at that show in Pordenone and it was a great evening!

yes they gave a fun italian title "UN PRANZO FAVOLOSO" a fabulous lunch.
I took a short video of that evening but it was very dark and I was far.....I think they played 3 Brackhage's films and it was very fine. I remember "I" and one "Love song".They were Ulrich Alan Lee and Tim, a great quartet!

Did anybody go? I wussed out at the last minute, deciding I just couldn't handle the "Free Friday Nite" hordes. If it had been the full band I'd've probably made the run uptown...

There's a newspaper review on one of the other ToL related threads. It was only posted today or yesterday, so should be quite easy to find.
EDIT - here |

"The around-the-block free-Friday-night queue had crashed what was clearly meant to have been an intimate occasion, and had ushers reassuring those to whom the fire code denied entry: “I’ve attended enough of these to know there’ll be newcomers, and they don’t usually stick around long.”"
I think I made the right choice! For my own mental health. Thanks for that link! |

I went to this as well, here is a short review I wrote at the time:
I was fortunate enough (small room, maybe enough room for 120-150 people?) to have caught this incredible show last night at the Whitney, Text of Light is a side project of guitarist Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth, at this performance it was him, another guitarist Alan Licht, and percussionist Tim Barnes who played a timpani drum and Japanes style gong cymbal(if thats a proper way to describe it) also assorted bells and whisles, the music itself is avant-garde noise explorations, consisting of dissonant chords, strange noises etc, Lee of course made use of the drum sticks on his guitar, the highlight for me was when he played the guitar by striking it on the body and neck, the reverberation caused it to have the sound of piano chords being struck. As this was happening a movie was projected on a screen by the 1920s Bauhaus artist Moholy-Nagy, here is the film: http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...71494426028619 , the machine itself was also in the room, and it was turned on and throwing the light show all around, it was pretty trippy weird, otherworldly experience, after that film was over the light machine was shut off and there was a slide show projected by Leah Singer, mostly artistic shots of her photos, shots of NYC= times Square, Las Vegas, closeups of faces, etc, forlorn images that augmented and complemented the music. In short this was an amazing one of a kind show(I only wish this was filmed/recorded, it was apprx 1 hour show), I think Text of Light will be doing more of this type of shows in the future, and I highly recommend it. here is their web site: http://sonicyouth.com/dotsonics/lee/text/index.html |

just noticed that link doesnt work anymore, here is another: http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...&q=moholy+nagy
and here is a shot of the actual machine, I think this must have been taken at Whitney actually, looks like the same room, gives you a bit of an idea what it was like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uR6iLF3hWmo also I dont agree entirely with that professional reviewer about the disturbances, etc, I got there about 5:30-5:40 and was in by 6:15 (the line outside Whitney since this was a free friday) by the time i got to this room at about 6:30 I was the 4th person in line, I got a seat in the front row, didnt notice or hear any commotion, maybe there was in the back of the room, the reviewer should have tried to get there earlier I guess, or maybe he was in the projection room, I dont know. For myself it was great. |
