How hard is it to listen to a band that interest you? I can't think of anyone I would put in this category. I don't think I "should" listen to anyone, and those that I want to, I will.

i don't buy a record unless i hear it first (save for those rare albums i buy exclusively based upon the artwork which usually turn out to be good). i spend a lot of time downloading music because the only people being "cheated" out of money by doing that are the faceless pigfuckers running the record companies. bands don't make jack from record sales.

I think the people your cheating is the independent record store down the road which may well have some of the music you download.

yes but you see, after i download it i go out and buy it on vinyl. i'm not cheating anyone. you ought to see how many stacks and stacks of LPs are sitting where my dining room table should ostensibly be.

Ah alright then, I have occasionally had a similar approach in the past for bands I know very little about. But doesn't this spoil some of the surprise? For me, one of the most magic moments you can have with music is hearing a new album for the first time straight from vinyl, not on some soulless CD-R, WMP or iTunes...

panicsville is very neat, i actually did a split with them almost two years ago. antigama are also great, but i don't think resonance is as good, better start with zeroland. |

i don't like downloading music anymore. mostly cause my compupter sucks and doesn't have nearly enough space on it. i used to download way too much.
i much prefer buying music even if i've never listened to it. i'll only buy an album if i've heard a lot of good things about it or know that i'll like it cause its related to some other band. |

Yeah, this thread makes no sense to me. If you're interested in any artist, listen to them. Not that difficult. Even if you "hate downloadin'" or whatever, you can go to last.fm or any band's myspace profile and listen to their music instantly...

I can understand this thread.
For instance, I knew I should start listening to Blonde Redhead, as someone recommended them to me, but for some reason whenever I wanted to listen to it, well I finally didn't want it, so I had to wait like, one month to finally listen to (and enjoy) them |

checkin out new bands is the only real reason i still have a myspace account, i dont use it to keep in touch wit anyone or anything, facebook, as lame as it is, is easier for that stuff.
but fuck, we were blessed with the internet and being able to find anything we want, we might as well use it. in marc masters's no wave book, weasel walter writes in the foreword about how back when he was a young teenager people really had to dig deep to find records, and if it sucked, so be it. we really have it lucky.

yeah there's really no excuse for NOT listening to a band you've never heard before.
