New York-Yastad available now
July 24, 2006 "New York-Yastad", also known as "Without Kim", is available now on the Olof Bright web site. The CD which was part of the limited edition "Black Box" features Lee Ranaldo, Thurston Moore, Steve Shelley with Mats Gustafsson. I'm not sure how many copies are left but it is a must have for any Sonic Youth collector. Also available on that site is Jim O'Rourke "jim:hotel:computer". Moshe |

Hey, Moshe, have I ever mentioned that you're a star?
On the same site is also a CD called "Look at the Music" which includes "Totally Gump (Gump completist) - alternative mix by Jim O´Rourke" by Diskaholics Anonymous Trio |

Also from the olofbright.com website:
OBCD 01 "New York - Ystad" Thurston Moore, Lee Ranaldo, Steve Shelley from Sonic Youth with Mats Gustafsson, reeds. "Without Kim I" "Without Kim II" Total time 62:03 Recorded April 12 1999 by Wharton Tiers Mixed May 2 2000 by Jim O´Rourke Recorded and mixed at the Echo Canyon, NYC Graphic form Karin Almlöf Produced by Mats Gustafsson and Thomas Millroth Limited edition 100 for Black Box + HC. Heavy free rock´n roll with improvised sounds and lines by one of the most intriguing saxophones on stage today. The recorded music is one of the earliest examples of the collaboration between Mats Gustafsson and the members of Sonic Youth. The record was edited when Ystad Art Museum arranged its Open Music Festival during the first Kultubro Festival, 2000. The price on the catalogue page shows as 37.50 EURO, but when I ordered it was only 30.00 EURO. Postage to Europe is a further 3 EURO. |

Just got it and let me tell you it is absolutely amazing. I think this release is up there with syr3, syr4 and the Diskaholics first album.
Mats makes some beautiful noise. Sonic Youth should consider adding him to the band instead of Jim. |

I have the Black Box and this particular disc is crushing... thurston's guitar is incredibly loud and so is Mats' sax and Steve's drumming, its like this was recorded at maxed out volume and totally in the "red". there is this intense mu-tron wah pedal thing that thurston does that totally outrivals that windtunnel section in the song "washing machine"... if you're not sure about picking this up then this should be enough to get this disc.
