What do you all think about Unwound's final album? Had it playing in my car the other day for a few days and realized I had probably listened to it just as much or more than some SY records.
Really thinking about it, I would say this album reminds me of listening to Daydream Nation for the first time. It really changed the way I think about rock, just like DDN did. DDN was the first real SY record I listened to, and I was a kid. My friend made me listen to it and I knew it was the shittiest band with the shittiest sound. Totally changed my life. When I heard Unwound, which Leaves was the first record, I was so pissed off. Here's this band trying to sound like SY but they fail so miserably. Like a third rate SY. Couple of listens later what the fuck brilliant. |

Kind of had a similar experience to yourself, bud. 'Cept first time I heard Daydream Nation I was instantly changed. Leaves Turn took a few spins but it was amazing how quickly I switched from hating it to adoring it. Yes, sublime record, completely.

It's been said a couple of times on this board how wonderful this album is. Personally, it grabbed me from the first time i heard it - i already knew almost every Unwound release, so that probably helped. "We Invent You", "Terminus", "Below the Salt" are some of my favorite songs of them and probably also some of the best i ever heard.
PS: if anyone wants a FLAC copy of LTIY (probably the only one surfacing the net, lol) check the latest posts of the wonderful holyfuckingshit40000 blog. |

it's one of the NR Essentials. One of the first 10 if I remember. DO a search, we talked about it a lot.

I agree to all of you. I got this as a promo disc from somebody short before the release, and thought about the album as a bad Sy rip off, too. but its one of my favouite albums too. you definately have to be in the mood for it, but if you are then it elevates you.
btw, I can remember the first half so much better then the second

Really? I like the second half more. But overall it's a fantastic album, I like they way they developed their sound from previous albums. I think Fake Train is even better, but it's a beautiful record. |
